Jammu, April 12th, 2008: Congress President and Chairperson of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA), Smt Sonia Gandhi visited the site of IL&FS Engineering and Construction Company Limited, the Hyderabad based construction and infrastructure development company here today. Maytas Infra is constructing an integrated township for Kashmiri pundits in an area of 100 acres at Nagrota on the outskirts of Jammu town.
The township with 176 blocks and a built-up area of 21 lakh sq.ft is the largest gated community developed by a state government. The Rs. 260 crore project which is being developed by Maytas Infra and funded by Prime Minister’s Relief Fund will have all amenities like a community hall, parks, roads and compound wall along with residential houses.
This is the second high level visit to the prestigious project being monitored by Kashmiri Pundits’ Relief Commission after Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh visited the site late last year. The project that was commissioned on September 7th, 2007 will be completed within 24-months. Maytas Infra had deployed a workforce of 1500 people including engineering staff and labourers, and 4227 dwelling units to complete the work at a rapid pace.
